It combines a cinema-focused imaging pipeline, a comprehensive set of features, and intuitive operation to create a versatile system suitable for filmmakers at all experience levels.

26MP APS-C / Super 35mm Exmor R BSI CMOS Sensor

The FX30’s imaging system aligns with other cameras in Sony’s Cinema Line, capturing detailed 10-bit UHD 4K video at up to 120 fps.

The newly developed 26MP APS-C Exmor R CMOS sensor, paired with the BIONZ XR processor, produces high-quality 4K imagery using the Super 35mm (16:9) recording area.

Key capabilities include:

  • 14+ stops of dynamic range
  • Dual Base ISO architecture for improved low-light performance

Additional recording specifications:

  • Sensitivity up to ISO 32000 with Dual Base ISO (800 / 2500)
  • 14+ stops dynamic range when using S-Log3
  • 10-bit 4:2:2 recording using XAVC HS and XAVC S-I codecs
  • Full pixel readout from the 6K sensor for high-quality UHD 4K up to 60 fps
  • 4K up to 120 fps with a 1.6× crop
  • Full HD up to 240 fps
  • 16-bit RAW output via HDMI to compatible external recorders

Professional Picture Control

The FX30 offers extensive picture control options for filmmakers.

S-Cinetone
Uses the same color science found in Sony’s advanced cinema cameras, including the VENICE series, delivering natural midtones, soft color reproduction, and smooth highlight roll-off.

Picture Profiles
Profiles such as S-Log3 and HLG capture footage with expanded dynamic range and increased flexibility during post-production.

Creative Looks
Creative Looks can be baked into recorded footage to establish a specific visual style during recording and minimize the need for editing.

The camera also supports:

  • Up to 16 user-created LUTs
  • Three LUT presets

These LUTs can be applied to the camera monitor, EVF, or HDMI output for accurate monitoring and look previewing during production.

Operation for All Levels

The FX30 includes three log shooting modes designed to suit different workflows:

Flexible ISO
Uses standard ISO settings for simple operation and maximum flexibility.

Cine EI
Ensures maximum dynamic range capture by recording at a manually selected base ISO and applying adjustments to metadata for monitoring and post-production.

Cine EI Quick
Automatically switches between the two base ISO settings for easier operation.

Advanced Autofocus Performance

The Fast Hybrid AF system provides fast and accurate autofocus performance in every recording mode, including 4K at up to 120 fps.

Key autofocus features include:

  • 495 AF points (759 in photo mode)
  • Coverage of approximately 90% of the image sensor
  • Real-time Eye AF for humans and animals
  • Real-time Tracking

Additional focus tools include:

  • AF Assist, which switches to manual focus when rotating the lens focus ring
  • Focus Map, which visualizes depth-of-field regions

5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilization

The FX30 incorporates 5-axis in-body image stabilization, allowing smooth footage when shooting handheld.

An Active Mode combines optical stabilization with digital optimization to produce extremely stable footage.

The camera can also record gyro motion metadata, enabling additional stabilization during post-production.
