With a compact design tailored for solo shooters, travel productions, or use as an ideal B camera, the Sony FX3A blends technologies from the Cinema Line and Alpha series to create a highly optimized portable cinema camera.
The FX3A includes all the imaging capabilities expected from this class of camera while introducing a lightweight handheld design with a streamlined profile and a cage-free body, allowing accessories to be mounted directly onto the camera.
Firmware update v2.00 introduces multiple improvements, including:
The FX3A’s 12.1MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor (10.2MP effective in video mode) paired with the BIONZ XR processor enables UHD 4K video recording with internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling or 16-bit RAW output.
The sensor’s back-illuminated structure improves sensitivity and clarity, offering an expanded ISO range of 80–409,600 and 15+ stops of dynamic range, ideal for mixed lighting environments.
The S-Cinetone color profile allows seamless color matching with VENICE, FX9, and FX6 cameras, while support for S-Log3, S-Log2, S-Gamut3, S-Gamut3.Cine, and 10-bit HLG HDR enables flexible color grading and HDR workflows.
The sensor and processor combination also reduces rolling shutter, while Fast Hybrid AF ensures quick and intelligent subject tracking.
The 12.1MP Exmor R full-frame sensor combined with the BIONZ XR processor delivers cinematic imagery with 10.2MP effective resolution for video and 12.1MP for stills.
The full-frame design provides:
The native ISO range of 80–102,400, expandable to 409,600, enables exceptional low-light performance.
With 15+ stops of dynamic range, the camera captures detail in both bright highlights and deep shadows, providing flexibility for color grading.
The S-Cinetone color profile, the default setting on the FX3A, produces:
Support for S-Log3, S-Gamut3, S-Gamut3.Cine, and 10-bit 4:2:2 recording preserves smooth tonal gradations across Sony’s Cinema Line ecosystem.
