Canon R6 Overview: Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera for Photographers and Video Content Creators
Delivering incredible performance at speeds up to 12 fps, the EOS R6 camera from Canon can capture split-second details between a subject’s movements. This is ideal for dynamic action photos of athletes, animals, or vehicles in motion. The selectable electronic (silent) shutter mode can capture images at up to 20 fps, which is useful for wildlife photographers and photojournalists.

20MP Full-Frame Sensor and DIGIC X Processor
Built around a revised 20MP full-frame CMOS sensor, the EOS R6 offers moderate resolution to complement a more manageable workflow, especially for those working with web and small print formats as their final output. This sensor is paired with a refined DIGIC X image processor, enabling impressive still and video capabilities, along with sensitivity from ISO 100-102400, expandable up to ISO 204800.

4K60 and Full HD 120 Video Recording
Beyond stills, the 20MP sensor also enables UHD 4K video recording at up to 60 fps, along with Full HD at 120 fps for slow-motion playback. Both formats can be recorded internally in 4:2:2 10-bit and support Canon Log and HDR-PQ for greater control over color rendering and suitability for high dynamic range output. Additionally, Dual Pixel CMOS AF is supported for all recording settings, and external recording via the HDMI port enables clean 4K output to an optional external recorder.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
The updated Dual Pixel CMOS AF II features 1053 selectable focus points, covering approximately 100% of the image frame for wide and even coverage. This focusing system delivers smooth and fast performance, similar to that of a camcorder. The system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection elements across most of the image sensor, reducing focus hunting for faster and more direct focus control.

When working with still images, this focusing system acquires focus quickly and accurately, making it ideal for shooting and tracking moving subjects to ensure critical focus with each shot. When recording video, the Movie Servo AF mode provides smooth and natural focus transitions between subjects or distances within a scene, along with the ability to adjust tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. With the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements on the touchscreen for intuitive focus changes. Subject tracking in video is further enhanced by the system’s ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus in changing or complex environments.

Subject tracking is also enhanced by Deep Learning technology, which helps refine the system’s ability to quickly and accurately recognize both people and animals. This technology also supports advanced eye, face, and head detection for both people and animals.

Sensor-Shift Image Stabilizer
A first for EOS cameras, the R6 incorporates five-axis sensor-shift image stabilization that compensates for up to eight stops of camera shake, providing highly effective stabilization for handheld shooting at slower shutter speeds. This system also works in conjunction with lens-based optical image stabilization for both native RF lenses and adapted EF lenses.

Body Design

• High-resolution 0.5″ 3.69m-dot electronic viewfinder provides bright and detailed eye-level viewing, and the fast 120 fps refresh rate delivers natural motion rendering for a more realistic experience.

• Rear 3.0″ 1.62m-dot touchscreen LCD features a vari-angle design, ideal for front-facing recording such as vlogging, as well as shooting from high and low angles.

• The refined body design includes four distinct control dials for intuitive tactile control, and a rear joystick enables fast and intuitive focus point selection and menu navigation.
