Lightweight, compact, and travel-friendly, the Canon EOS R8 Mirrorless Camera delivers powerful imaging capabilities for both photographers and multimedia content creators. Featuring the same newly developed sensor found in the EOS R6 Mark II, the R8 combines a 24.2MP Full-Frame CMOS sensor with the DIGIC X image processor. Together, they provide outstanding still-image quality, impressive 4K 60p 10-bit video, and exceptionally fast autofocus performance.

24.2MP Full-Frame Sensor and DIGIC X Processor

The combination of the 24.2MP Full-Frame CMOS sensor and the powerful DIGIC X image processor delivers high-resolution images with rich, accurate colors.

Designed to perform in a wide range of lighting conditions, the camera offers a flexible ISO 100–102400 range, expandable to ISO 204800, allowing excellent performance even in low-light environments.

Using the full width of the sensor, the EOS R8 records 6K oversampled UHD 4K video at up to 60p, as well as Full HD 1080p at 180 fps for smooth slow-motion footage.

The camera also supports 10-bit 4:2:2 recording and allows up to 2 hours of continuous video recording at 29.97 fps, making it ideal for longer productions.

Powered by the DIGIC X processor, the R8 captures continuous bursts at up to 40 frames per second. It also features Pre-Shooting, which records images 0.5 seconds before the shutter button is fully pressed, helping capture decisive moments.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

With 1,053 autofocus points covering nearly the entire sensor area, the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system delivers exceptionally fast, accurate, and intelligent autofocus performance.

Its advanced phase-detection technology enhances subject detection and tracking, automatically recognizing people, animals, and vehicles, while maintaining continuous focus during burst shooting and video recording.

The system also performs reliably in extremely low-light conditions, with autofocus sensitivity down to -6.5 EV.

HDR PQ and Canon Log 3

Although the EOS R8 produces outstanding video straight out of the camera, creators seeking greater post-production flexibility can choose between two advanced recording formats:

• HDR PQ, which records 10-bit files ready for playback without additional color grading. These files are compatible with HDR televisions, monitors, and smartphones, delivering enhanced color accuracy and wider dynamic range.
• Canon Log 3, designed for professional editing workflows. It creates 10-bit Log files, allowing extensive highlight and shadow recovery while providing greater flexibility for creative color grading.

Vertical Movie Mode and Aspect Markers

The camera can record orientation information during or after video capture, allowing videos to be automatically displayed in vertical format on smartphones.

The Aspect Markers feature displays visual guides for multiple aspect ratios, making it easier to compose content for various social media platforms.

Livestreaming

Thanks to UVC/UAC compatibility, the EOS R8 can be used as a Full HD webcam without requiring additional software.

The EOS R8 features a 2.36-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF), providing a bright, sharp viewing experience with 100% frame coverage.

Its refresh rate of up to 120 fps ensures smooth, natural viewing while composing images.

The camera also includes a 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen LCD with 1.62 million dots, making it easy to compose photos and videos from virtually any angle.

The Touch & Drag AF function allows you to quickly move the autofocus point simply by dragging your finger across the touchscreen.
