Canon C400 RF Mount Overview
Creators looking to capture a rich cinematic look with versatile imaging tools can turn to the Canon EOS C400 6K full-frame digital cinema camera with RF mount. Built around a new 6K full-frame back-illuminated CMOS sensor, the C400 features triple-base ISO levels of 800, 3200, and 12,800, covering a wide range of lighting conditions. This camera combines high-resolution imaging with both cinema and broadcast features such as optional Cooke/i PL mount compatibility, return video, and Super35 and Super16 modes, along with solo-operator-friendly tools like Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, internal ND filters, and a compact, lightweight design.
6K Full-Frame Sensor
Canon has placed a new 6K CMOS sensor at the core of the C400, enabling extremely low noise, improved sensitivity efficiency, and enhanced 4K image quality via 6K oversampling. This is made possible by the advanced light capture technology of the back-illuminated, stacked CMOS sensor.
Triple-Base ISO
The same 6K CMOS sensor provides three ISO options—800, 3200, and 12,800—allowing you to capture everything from brightly lit environments and full-sun landscapes to available-light scenes such as interiors or nighttime cityscapes.
Multiple Recording Formats
The C400 supports Cinema RAW recording up to 6K60 in 12-bit HQ, ST, and LT modes. Oversampled 4K delivers exceptional detail in 10-bit 4:2:2 at frame rates up to 120p, without sensor cropping. It also supports slow and fast motion recording up to UHD 4K120 and 2K180.
Canon streamlines the workflow with XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S codecs, offering simplified naming, improved folder structure, and metadata preservation within the MP4 format.
Optional PL Mount Adapter
Expand your lens options using the separately available PL-RF adapter, which features side lock plates for secure mounting and supports Cooke/i metadata for post-production workflows.
Dual Media Slots
Includes CFexpress Type B and SD card slots, enabling proxy recording on SD while simultaneously recording RAW to CFexpress.
Mechanical ND Filters
Quickly adjust up to 10 stops of ND filtration, allowing precise exposure control without affecting depth of field.
Compact, Lightweight Body
The RF mount’s short flange distance reduces overall size, making it ideal for gimbal, handheld, or drone use.
Improved Autofocus
The enhanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system enables precise tracking of eyes, face, head, and body. It also detects animals regardless of size or orientation.
Production and Broadcast Features
Includes 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and HDMI outputs, dual mini-XLR audio inputs, timecode, genlock, return video, and a 12-pin lens port.
An automatic clear-scan shutter mode helps reduce flicker from LED lighting.
LCD, Handle, and Grip
Features an adjustable touchscreen LCD with flexible positioning, an ergonomic grip with customizable buttons, and a multi-function shoe.
Ethernet/Wi-Fi Control and IP Streaming
Supports remote control via Canon’s XC protocol and compatibility with control units. Also enables IP streaming via the SRT protocol.
